Frequently Asked Questions

Dancers learn best in an environment free from distractions. Parents of young dancers are allowed in the classroom the very first day of classes only. Thereafter, parents only will be allowed in class during specific observation times set up by the teacher. Exceptions, with the approval of the teacher, are made for preschoolers who need additional time to feel comfortable and secure. There ARE view windows available at the Sahuarita Arts Center and Rancho Sahuarita Clubhouse, and parents may be able to observe their students from outside of the room. We do ask, however, that you please avoid bringing siblings/small children to the waiting/viewing areas whenever possible. The waiting/viewing area gets very crowded and noisy, and it becomes very distracting to the dancers. If you must bring siblings/small children to the waiting/viewing areas, please monitor them closely and ensure they are not running around or making excessive noise! Also, children are not permitted in classrooms without instructors.

Yes! In December we have a holiday performance. In the past, we have alternated between performing “The Nutcracker” on odd years and “O Holy Night” on even years! Students wishing to participate may audition at the end of summer. At this time, we are able to include all students who audition! For all participants, there is a reasonable participation/costume rental fee, which helps cover costs associated with instruction time, costume rental, and rental of the facility. Most rehearsals will take place Saturdays in the fall. We also have competitive performing dance teams who are given opportunities to dance at the recital, during the holiday performance, and throughout the year for community events! Enrollment on Performing Teams is invitation only, however if you have a child who is interested, please contact Michele for more information!

It is our hope that all children will participate in the recital, however it is NOT mandatory. We understand that some families will be leaving for their summer vacations. We are also aware that some children do not want to dance on stage in front of a large audience. If you or your child chooses to not participate in the recital, we will certainly miss having your child in the show, but we understand. Please notify the office by September 1st IN WRITING to let us know if your child is not participating in the recital, so that we can make sure not to charge your account the costume fee(s) and a costume. If you are undecided, please let us know that as well. Please remember, costumes are ordered in December. Costumes ordered late may incur an additional expedited service charge.

Costumes cost $70/child/dance (for most classes, occasionally a costume may cost more). On September 15th we charge for May recital costume deposits ($35 per costume) and Performing Team Costume Rental Fees ($60). On November 15th, we charge for the $35 balance due of costume fees. If you do not wish for your dancer(s) to be in the recital, please remember to always notify your children’s teacher and the studio in writing by September 1st annually. If your account was charged in error, please call us at 520-232-3753 and we will get it straightened out! Costume fees are non-refundable, so make sure you notify us in writing before September 1st if you do not want to be charged costume fees!

FOR ALL CLASSES:

Please come to class prepared and ready to dance – Students may not be permitted to participate in class if dressed in inappropriate attire! All dancers should be clean, neat, and dressed appropriately following these standards:

Hair:

In dance and gymnastics, hair should be secured in a braid or ponytail away from the face. In ballet, longer hair should ALWAYS be pulled back and pinned securely in a bun! Short hair must be secured from the face. This rule WILL be enforced.

Jewelry:

No dangling jewelry including bracelets, earrings, or necklaces are allowed in class. Loose jewelry can get caught or tangled, making it a hazard to yourself or others while dancing.

Shoes:

Shoes are a must! No street shoes or bare feet unless otherwise instructed. Different styles of dance often require different shoes; Please refer to the specific dress code instructions (see below). Keep dance shoes clean and in good repair; They should not be worn on the street or sidewalk! Parents: It is not to your child’s benefit to purchase “shoes to grow into”. If you have any questions, please ask your instructor.

Clothes:

NO STREET CLOTHES, NO JEANS, AND NO BARE MIDRIFFS. You should be comfortable in your dancewear both physically and emotionally. All clothing (except for Hip Hop) should be form fitting (not loose). Your instructor needs to see your body lines, so no oversized clothing please. Please follow the dress code for your classes. Make sure all your practice clothing is clean, neat, and in good repair (no holes/torn clothing). No costume-looking outfits (very distracting and should be saved for the stage).

CONSEQUENCES FOR FAILURE TO FOLLOW DRESS CODE:

1st Offense: Students will be given a warning and informed of dress code expectations

2nd Offense: Students will be asked to sit out of class, or they may go home and change and return to class. Students/Parents will also be offered an opportunity to purchase appropriate dancewear to wear and return to class. Parents may pay for dancewear by Cash or Check, or their Credit Card account will be billed for the purchase.

3rd Offense: Students must purchase appropriate dancewear to wear and return to class. Parents may pay for dancewear by Cash or Check, or their Credit Card account will be billed for the purchase.
